Farmers Home Administration

by | Feb 4, 2026

In real estate and lending, the Farmers Home Administration was an agency of the United States Department of Agriculture created to provide financial assistance to farmers and residents of rural areas. Its primary purpose was to offer loans and guarantees when financing was not available from private lenders on reasonable terms.

The agency played an important role in supporting rural housing, agriculture, and community development. Its functions have since been absorbed into other USDA programs, most notably the USDA Rural Development loan programs, which continue to provide financing for eligible rural properties and borrowers.
