Financing Statement

by | Feb 4, 2026

In real estate and commercial transactions, a Financing Statement is a document filed to give public notice that a secured party has a security interest in specified collateral. The filing helps establish the priority of the secured party’s claim and protects their interest against claims by third parties.

Financing statements are commonly filed under the Uniform Commercial Code and identify the debtor, the secured party, and the collateral covered. By placing the public on notice, the financing statement helps ensure that the secured party’s rights in the collateral are legally recognized and enforceable.
