Reformation

by | Feb 10, 2026

In real estate and contract law, reformation is a legal remedy obtained through a court action to correct a mistake in a deed or other written instrument. It is used when the document does not accurately reflect the true intent of the parties due to error.

Reformation does not create a new agreement but instead revises the existing document to conform to the original understanding. This remedy is commonly applied in cases of mutual mistake or clerical error.
