Dedication

by | Jan 22, 2026

In real estate, dedication is the process by which a property owner voluntarily transfers land for public use, such as for streets, parks, or other community facilities. This transfer becomes effective only when the land is formally accepted by the appropriate public authorities, acting on behalf of the community. Dedication is a common method for providing necessary public infrastructure in developing areas.

Once dedicated and accepted, the land is no longer privately owned and is maintained by the public or government entity. Dedications help ensure organized development, support public services, and create legal clarity about which areas are designated for public use, benefiting both the community and future property owners.
