Recording

by | Feb 10, 2026

In real estate law, recording is the process of filing documents that affect real property with the appropriate public office, usually the county recorder. Commonly recorded documents include deeds, mortgages, deeds of trust, and liens.

Recording gives constructive notice to future purchasers, creditors, and other interested parties of existing rights or claims against the property. By placing documents in the public record, recording helps establish priority and protect interests in real estate.
